Cotonou was the world capital of pétanque for 10 days. Benin's pétanque has come out of it on top. Well done to all those who made it happen, and thank you to ORTB for allowing us to experience it live. We wish everyone a safe journey home.
World Pétanque Championships Finals
The 2023 edition came to an end this evening, 17 September 2023, in Cotonou, place de l'Amazone, with a gold medal for Benin, World Champion in Mixed Doubles (Laïma Sambo & Marcel Gbetable). The Precision Shooting was won by France (Dylan Rocher) - the Women's Individual World Championship went to Tunisia (Mouna Beji) - the Men's Individual World Championship went to Thailand (Ratchata Khamdee) - the Women's Doubles World Championship went to Thailand (Nantawan Fuangsanit & Sunitra Phuangyoo) - the Men's Doubles World Championship went to France (Christophe Sarrio & Dylan Rocher) - and the Men's Triplettes World Championship was won by Thailand (Sarawut Sriboonpeng & Ratchata Khamdee & Supan Thongphoo & Thanawan Toosewha) - all the detailed results of the championships click on the poster below
Benin crowned World Champion
Organiser of the 50th World Pétanque Championships, Benin is World Champion in Mixed Doubles. Benin won its first gold medal - Other World Champions: Individual Women's Champion Tunisia - Individual Men's Champion Thailand - Women's Doubles Champion Thailand - Men's Doubles Champion France - see all the results in the "Individual - Doubles - Mixed" section.
"A vos boules" at the Mondial de Pétanque in Cotonou
When the boules fall on the Amazones ground in Cotonou, the whole world will still be amazed ! The 26 courts, including 2 squares of honour, are ready in Benin 🇧🇯 to host the Men's and Women's Doubles, Mixed Doubles, Men's Triples and Precision Shooting World Pétanque Championships from 08 to 17 September 2023.

Pétanque World Championship: A great festival of boules - The National Organising Committee, chaired by Sports Minister Oswald Homeky, is announcing free entry on presentation of an access pass or badge. Petanque enthusiasts who are not members of a petanque club in Benin will be able to collect their entry pass for this major world event from the Permanent Secretariat of the Organising Committee, located at the Palais des Congrès, from 15 August 2023. Beninese club members are asked to forward the list of their players wishing to attend the World Cup to their league. The Benin Petanque Federation will provide them with access badges so that they can follow the entire competition. The warmest sport in the world will be celebrated from 07 September at the foot of the Amazon in Cotonou.
